Magical Meatballs

You can't really look at Vinnie (left) + Henry (right) without laughing.

This image was shot in Seattle during the month of January, a month where I am constantly fighting rain, mist, and low light. We had been battling the rain and dark clouds all day so decided to take it inside for the rest of the shoot.

Weimaraners are not known for their lack of energy, hence, the need to bring out extra special treats to hold their attention.

The treat of choice on this rainy day? Meatballs of course.

There were meatballs everywhere! On the floor, in their mouths, on my hands, on my pants, and all over the carpet.

It didn't bother me though because these meatballs were magical. If I remember correctly, in this shot I had asked their Dad to hold the meatball directly on top of my head.

What really makes the shot for me is Vinnie's little tongue peeking out. It gives you the hint that there might be something tasty just outside the frame.

And now you know what it was!

Outside the Frame

When looking at this image, one might assume that Zeke and I were enjoying a leisurely afternoon on the bed.

One would assume wrong.

Enter Lewis, an energetic, hormone-crazed, Wire Fox Terrier puppy.

Although my goal of capturing Zeke perfectly framed against the piece of art hanging behind him was realized, it was not without sacrifices.

In this shot, I was laying halfway on the bed to get a nice low perspective of Zeke.

Just outside the frame Lewis is standing on my back with his front paws on top of my head.

I guess he wanted to add a little spice to our shoot because right when I had Zeke in position, he decided to go to town on my head (yes, that is what I'm talking about) while I desperately tried to hold still and focus.

When I say I will do just about anything to get the shot, I mean it.

I'm Not Martha Stewart

It was a warm spring day when I arrived to see Daisy Mae, an adorable 6-month-old Bulldog puppy.

Daisy Mae, her Mom and a friend were out in the driveway organizing plants for a school fundraiser happening that weekend.

About halfway through, her Mom had to leave to drive her friend home. I was left alone with her high school daughter.

On a whim, I asked her "You don't happen to have any fun, colorful bedrooms upstairs do you?"

We headed upstairs and I almost died at the colors that popped out at me. I was in heaven! We only had to shoot for about 5 minutes to get this shot. Her sister is just out of the frame holding her attention.

When Mom got home, we chatted a bit more before I started packing up my gear. As I was leaving, I mentioned how much I adored the shots in the blue bedroom.

She gasped and said "Oh my gosh, you didn't go upstairs did you? I'm so embarrassed! I can only keep one level clean at a time."

I said "Not to worry, I'm no Martha Stewart and I don't expect anyone else to be either! Besides, I think you'll get over it when you see the shot I got in there."

And I think she did.
